Every time we come to South Dakota it makes our hearts sing. The open prairies, the beautiful rivers, and the spacious farmland makes you want to smile all day long. Even seeing the end of the sunflower fields were beautiful. All of the flower heads were dry and hanging, ready to be harvested. And then you would see one lonely flower still in bloom with its face turned toward the sun. It is quite amazing.
It was hard to pass up the exit to Pine Ridge. We have been there so many times and made a few friends that we would have loved to have seen. I know that Thom would have liked to have met up with Dan and did a little drumming with him. Right now, though, we are headed to the Seattle clinic and need to be sure we stay on track for getting everything done in a timely manner.
The other thing that was hard to do was pass up the exit to Wall, SD where the famous Wall Drug Store is located. They make the most amazing homemade donuts and we really wanted some of those! Sadly, there was no place to park the truck, and we looked believe me! Maybe next time, because we know there will be a next time.
Tomorrow we go into Wyoming and Montana. We hope to get to Butte and stay there for the night. I have checked the weather for that area tomorrow night and it will be cold, cold, cold - 29 degrees. BRRR. You all know how much I just love being in cold weather!!! This means that I will have to put away the shorts and put on jeans for the trip tomorrow. (sad face) However, the trip is beautiful and we will get glimpses of Devil's Tower and the Teton Mountains.
At any rate, we are sitting here in Rapid City and looking forward to getting started tomorrow. From this point onward, RAM-1 will be in new territory.
