My day begins each morning with a prayer to our Great Creator and then I sit in silence with a cup of coffee. During this time, I allow only good energy to fill my mind and the room I am in. This helps me to get ready to paint my day.
We all began our life with a blank canvas. From the moment of birth, our parents began to paint the colors on our canvas and several of these colors were chosen by the many expectations of the society in which we live. For many of us, the colors that originated with our parents are tinged with the colors that we have added as we became adults and taken on more responsibilities. As we move through our lives, the canvas begins to become a myriad of colors. Jobs, families, and school adds more and more color to the canvas, but the paint brush strokes are always in the same place, over and over and over. This mixture of colors on top of one another can only produce a shade of gray. We cling to the gray because it is the thickest part of the canvas and gives us a false sense of security. Years and years of paint build up in one spot. We forget to look around us and see the beauty of colors that aren’t stained by gray. We see vibrant colors all around us, but don’t really feel the necessity of adding these brilliant colors back into the essence of our lives. Many of us haven’t been able to add vibrant colors to our canvas in a long time.
We can all make a conscious choice to begin adding color back onto the canvas that covers the gray. Making
that choice won’t be easy. There will be hills and valleys, ups and downs, and dark and lonely days. Take time to paint your own canvas as you stroll through life. Relearn how to enjoy the stroll each day by adding the colors that make you smile. Don’t allow others to paint colors you don’t want on your canvas. Remember, it is your canvas and you get to choose what is painted on your canvas. We all have the option of painting our canvas any color that we want. When a gray day shows up you can choose to color in your own sunshine. Paint your canvas each day with what makes you happy.
My way of finding the colors for my canvas come from my drumming. In the drum I find my rainbow that allows me to step out of the world of black and white and away from the gray false sense of security and into a wonderful explosion of life.
We all have our canvas to paint and God gave us five senses to help us paint our most beautiful picture every day. He gave us sight so that we could see the true colors of the rainbow. He gave us sound so that we would have the ability to hear the rhythms of the universe and allow the vibration to penetrate deep into our heart and inner being, allowing everything to be as one. He gave us smell so that we could close our eyes and let the perfume of colors from the flowers waft over us. He gave us taste so that we could open our mouths and let the tang of silver rain saturate our inner being. He gave us the ability to touch and feel so the colors of the rainbow could join with the rhythm of the universe and pulsate into our hearts. All of these senses together can fill you with joy and allow your inner most emotions to fill your world.
Use these senses wisely and remember that each day can begin with a new canvas. Choose colors that are so vibrant that they seem to have a life of their own and create from your heart. This will insure you a master piece every day.
Choose your canvas and begin.
