When I signed up for Jim Donovan’s Empowerment class, my intention was to learn to be a better drummer. In my opinion, I am only a satisfactory drummer. My intention was not to become a great drummer. I just want to be fairly good. I want to share my passion for drumming with everyone because drumming burns a passion in my soul. I realize that it is not everyone’s dream to be a drummer and that’s OK. What I have realized from spending time in Jim’s class was the power of sound. He taught me that the sound of the drum is very powerful for those who will let its’voice enter into their inner being. The whole world of music shapes our lives. As I reflected on all of this I realized that I am being given a gift that is leading me forward on the correct path to share my passion for drumming with others.
Although I wanted to be good as a drummer, what I have learned is that it isn’t about being a good drummer. Jim is an exceptionally great drummer and he took us as a group and shared with us some simple rhythms. He gave us a good day, and more importantly, a great life experience.
It’s not about being good. It’s about sharing your passion with others that allows them to experience this wonderful moment in time. This grants us all a moment to share something that is for a greater good in the universe. Share your passion with others so that we can all make the world a better place, a universe of goodness, love, and kindness. You never know whose life you have made a difference in and that doesn’t matter just as long as you can make a difference for the good of others.
