drive around to the trailhead was great. As we arrived at the trailhead it was extremely crowded. The small parking area looked like a mall parking lot at Christmastime! We looked at one another and decided to pass on the hike part and just continue the ride. We had hoped to see eagles along the way as this is a wintering spot for them; however this was not a day that they felt like showing themselves to us. As we meandered along the small road the river was
absolutely wonderful. The sun was shining lightly through the clouds and glinting beautifully off the water. All was good in our world.
There were some places along the way that we could not believe! As you drove along and looked at all these beautiful places along the river, you would round a bend and there were places that looked as if the garbage trucks had been emptying out for years. Trash was everywhere! It was awful and a truly disgusting sight. How can people live in such squalor and be happy? These properties bordered a wildlife management area and I was in disbelief that there was nothing done either by the W.M.A. or at least the home owners in the area. It was very sad to see.
As we moved on there were more delightful places along the river. We found one such place and stopped for lunch. Our lunches are never fancy, although they are always filling. After some walking around along the river bank looking at birds and taking a few photos we were back in the jeep and rolling again. It was nice to be back in the jeep with heat since the wind was cold blowing off the river.
We continued our drive through a back road in the Sequatchie Valley, hoping to find a place to play the drums for a bit. Regrettably this didn’t work out for us in this area either. So even though we didn’t get to play drums, the day was very pleasant and relaxing. The best thing was I got to enjoy it with my wife.
It was perfect.
