This morning, we left our motel and decided that we had been on the interstate for too long, so we headed out for a leisurely drive to Nashville. We went through many small towns that seemed to be sleeping lazily in the sunshine.
We are getting closer to home. Tomorrow, after many days on the road, we will be back in our own bed. It seems odd to be back in Tennessee. I look around and there is green everywhere, even though it is winter and many plants are bleakly waiting for spring to arrive. I have gotten so accustomed to seeing for miles at a stretch that it feels very constricting to only be able to see a short distance around me. I think it will take a while to get back in the swing of being in the mountains. I already miss the high desert.
At one point on our journey, in Arkansas, we came upon fields that were filled with thousands of snow geese. It was amazing to see and hear. We had to stop and get photos of what seemed like miles of birds stretching across the horizon and extending up into the air. After we took several pictures, we decided to leave them in peace and finish our trip to Nashville, where we planned to spend the night.
